Meet Julie

Welcome! Thank you for being here.

I’m Julie, the designer and founder of Kamyi.Art. Since childhood, I’ve been enchanted by the magic of paper and fashion, transforming paper into dresses, shoes, jewelry, and tiny watches. My favorite creations were always the tiny origami cranes I made from notebook scraps during class. This love of paper craft endured with me through the years.

In 2019, while studying abroad in Tokyo, I discovered paper crane earrings made from vibrant, durable Japanese paper. It was a revelation—combining my love for paper art with fashion. Inspired, I began crafting origami earrings in 2020.

The Humble Beginning

In December 2021, I set up a small 2ft table in Balboa Park, San Diego to sell my origami earrings for the first time. Over the next few years, I improved my crafting process and attended various weekend craft fairs. Thanks to my supportive and enthusiastic customers, this modest start blossomed into a full-fledged artisan business by late 2023.

Today, Kamyi.Art Origami Designs has an independent online store and has been featured at pop-up markets across Southern California. Our product line now includes jewelry, decor, and collage displays. As Kamyi.Art continues to grow, our mission remains to celebrate paper art and East Asian culture, inspiring creativity and delight in every piece we create.

Our Process

Each piece of origami is handmade in our home studio in San Diego using traditional washi paper handpicked in Kyoto or sourced from local washi suppliers. The paper is then glazed with a protective coating to preserve the folds and make it water-resistant. We use hypoallergenic metals such as gold-plated silver or stainless steel for any parts that come into direct contact with the skin.

Our jewelry is designed & made with love and care. We take feedback seriously and constantly improve every step of the process to enhance our products for our customers and the environment. We hope you find something unique here that brings you peace and good fortune.
